Echo

Weights are tied to my ankles
And I have not seen a heavy heart
That doesn’t look like soaked pillows
With the shape of my face entrenched into it
Most of the people I know never understand
The kind of superpower it takes to go out on a rainy day
I have seen how my smile can look like a water spout
Saying hello to a dwindling gutter
And these hands are holding tight to that thread
That’s keeping the chandelier in place
Here’s to the tiny spec of believing that yes!
Life can be beautiful!
Life can be rich!
And beautiful can mean
Seeing your fingers filling the spaces between mine
What I know about loving is that pain is never just yours
Whenever hurt taps you at the back
I know my wound is a sound coming back
I kept on waiting for my pain to become a window
To see where the wind is leading the falling leaves to
I watched a dandelion mislay its thoughts in the blustery weather
and when it did, it speckled a thousand seeds.
Next time when I go out and ask you to watch the sun
Please don’t ask me to curl back under the sheets
Drag me to the nearest shore
Because it is always good to watch the waves kissing the shoreline
Dusting off my calloused knees as the biting cold announced its coming
But here’s where I will love the cold and ask life to dance
And you, you stay here with me
Share me your dazzling fists of failure
Your love for pain that kept you going
Life has left bruises on your face and mine
And it shall forever be a legacy of us staying here
It is the beauty of throbbing that has kept us together
And when loneliness whispers hello into your ear, don’t worry
Were together on that, too!
